Why You Shouldn't Rush into Fall: How to Make the Most of Your Workouts

As the seasons change, it can be tempting to get excited about all things autumn. But, let's not rush into pumpkin spice everything just yet! Instead, focus on making the most of your workouts and embracing the beauty of fall through exercise.

For those who are eager to kick-start their holiday season early, I'm here to remind you that it's still warm outside and ice cream is still a viable option. But, for those looking to stay active and take advantage of the changing seasons, there are plenty of ways to do so without sacrificing your sanity.

One of my personal favorite spots on campus is the run route from the dorms to Houghton House and then onto White Springs Road. The scenic fall colors make it a perfect spot to get in a 30-minute run while enjoying the crisp air. And, if you're looking for an added challenge, try incorporating some strength exercises into your cardio routine.

According to Jynell Petrosino, a personal trainer I've had the pleasure of working with, 'You want to work opposing muscle groups' when it comes to creating a balanced workout. With this in mind, here are three spots on campus where you can do just that:

1. The steps leading up to Houghton House: These stairs provide the perfect opportunity to get in some strength training while also getting your heart rate up.

2. The lawn outside of the student union: This open space allows for a variety of cardio exercises, such as burpees or jumping jacks, while also providing ample room for strength training with bodyweight exercises like push-ups and squats.

3. The track at the field house: If you're looking to get in a more intense workout, try using the track for sprints or high-intensity interval training.

So, before you start craving pumpkin spice lattes and plaid everything, take some time to appreciate the beauty of fall through exercise. With these tips and tricks, you can stay active and healthy all season long – without sacrificing your sanity.
